Renteaze ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

1. Data We Collect

Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, password (hashed), and profile photo when you register.

Listing Data: Property details, images, location, and pricing that Hosts submit.

Booking Data: Check-in/check-out dates, guest count, special requests, and payment references.

Payment Data: Transaction IDs and amounts. We do not store card numbers — payments are handled by Flutterwave.

Communications: Messages sent between users on the Platform.

Usage Data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and features used (for analytics and security).

2. How We Use Your Data

To operate and improve the Platform
To process bookings and payments
To send transactional emails (booking confirmations, receipts)
To provide customer support
To detect and prevent fraud and abuse
To comply with legal obligations
To send marketing communications (with your consent, opt-out available)

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only:

Between Guests and Hosts: Limited profile information (name, photo) is shared to facilitate bookings
Payment Processors: Flutterwave processes payments and has its own privacy policy
Service Providers: Email services, hosting providers, and analytics tools operating under data processing agreements
Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or government authority

4. Data Storage & Retention

Your data is stored on servers located in Nigeria. We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Booking records are retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance. You may request deletion of your account at any time (subject to legal retention requirements).

5. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

Keep you logged in (session cookies)
Remember your preferences
Analyse usage patterns (analytics)

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect Platform functionality.

6. Your Rights

Under applicable Nigerian data protection law (NDPR), you have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of your personal data
Correction: Update inaccurate information via your profile settings
Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
Objection: Object to processing of your data for marketing purposes
Restriction: Request we restrict processing in certain circumstances

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
Bcrypt hashing for passwords
JWT tokens for authentication
Regular security audits
Access controls limiting who can view your data

No system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your rights, we will notify you and the relevant authority within 72 hours as required by law.

8. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes via email or a notice on the Platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
